Horizon

Knuckles Range is the biggest mountain range in Sri Lanka. The entire region is covered with thick forest, except a few isolated villages. All you see is mountains and forest cover up to the horizon.

The Knuckles Range is part of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka which is already identified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Above picture was taken from Pitawalapathana.

This is a beautiful scene. I really like those forest-coveted mountains. This photo reminds me of some of the mountains we have here in eastern Tennessee.

George,
Yes, I also familiar with some of the photos you have put up with Tennessee mountains.

Shifan,
Yep tis a perfect sanctuary for a hiker.

Betsy,
Yes, it is a great mountain range. I'm glad about the prominence it is receiving after the listing under World Heritage sites.

Hi KP, Thank you for the photo and the UNESCO information (I did not know about it! :). I am glad that it is being recognized for it's value. I saw and visited the fringes of the range, much thanks to information you have on this blog.
Like George said it is like the Appalachians in the Eastern USA. I have hiked some paths in those mountains. For me they are more blueish and softer than the knuckles. Perhaps due to the latitude and weather. Thanks again.

That reminds me of my first and most epic Sinhalaya Travels trip :D

Nice pic. And I see the blog has had a face-lift... looks good :) Minimalistic and easy to navigate.

Frieda,
Really,, you must be living in an exciting place then.. :)

Rainfield,
Yep, i know that very well after following your blog for more than two years :)

Magerata,
Yes, it is great that the value of Knuckles Range and the entire Central Highlands were properly identified by important entities like UNESCO. Also recently the SL government too gave prominnece to this region by pledging to protect the mountain region above 5000 feet. It is actually prohibited even to use these lands for cultivation.
I think vegetation in temperate zone is quite different to here. that is why you get different hues in Appalachians.

The Puppeteer,
Yes, I remember the updates of your Knuckles expedition in your blog. Glad you managed to do it by foot rather than on gasolene :)
Yes, I'm doing a few changes here and there in the blog with my minimal web design knowledge. Glad you like it. :D

Thanks all for your wonderful comments.

George is right...these mountains do look a bit like the scenes he's posted from Tennessee! Looks like you made quite a hike up to the top! Enjoy!

Some small business people in my neighbourhood come Sri Lanka. I've tried to get them to describe their homeland to me. They tell me it is nothing special but from your photos I can see there is something beautiful there. Thanks for sharing with us.

Betchai,
Thanks very much.

Linnea,
Thanks. We were about 3500 feet above sea level.

Joyful,
Glad you find the beauty of my country thro' my pictures. :D

What a great view! The cliff face in the far distance looks like an inviting climb, as well. I guess no one can climb just one… and get it out of their system. Each climb tends to fuel the desire for another. :) Here’s hoping you get your next climb soon. ;) Great capture!

Hi Amaris,
I have never explored this side of the Knuckles region. so that is one reason I took the pictue above. Yes, the cliff face in the far distance is very inviting and each climb gives you bigger desire to climb the next one. Thanks for the wishes too :)
