Trees in the Lake

Above interesting photo was taken from the tank bund of Thisa Wewa (Tank) of Thissamaharama. Thisa wewa is one of the most scenic places in Sri Lanka. I’ll prove it with some pictures soon.

Thissamaharama is a town south of Sri Lanka situated in a vital location. Some of the facts are mentioned below.

The main temple of Thissamaharama is one of the 16 sacred places of Sri Lanka for Buddhists. In addition there are number of important places with archaeological importance. Thissamaharama is very close to culturally important venue of Katharagama, where people from all religions and race come to worship throughout the year. Also it is the closest town to the southern entrance of Yala National Park.

Nice...used to love the old Tissa rest house before all the modifications. Have you taken the boat ride to the island in the center? We took an oruwa yeears ago, there was a Sambhur that was on there and could be hand fed.

Wow.. it's so artistic.. the tree (with its perfect fan like shape) and the lake around.

I've been there a long time back so have no memory of this wewa or the temple at all. Hope to visit there again.

Thx for sharing KP, brings about memories. @Offthebeatentrack, we tried to actually ride the oruwa by ourselves and ended up going in circles (lack of knowledge in steering) in the lake until a person from the rest house came and rescued us.

Eileen,
Thanks a lot! :)

Clo,
You are most welcome.
Yes I have seen on pictures a type of beetle with a rhino like horn
Best wishes from SL!

Rainfield,
Thanks! Yes, it was quite unique I thought.

Offthebeatentrack,
I went on a boat around the tank but did not go to the island.
Sambhur in the island? I should have gone there to see it :)

Harumi,
There are any trees there and this is just one. Also you could see similar trees in Uda Walawe too.

Magerata,
Yes, steering any sort of boat for the first time is a very challenging experience.
You need to have perfect balance of the boat, the strokes of the oar as well as the timing according to the flow of the water. I have tried a similar boat in Bolgoda Lake once. We went down the stream quite easily and we had a time getting the boat back on the upstream. The oar did not work the way we wanted, so finally we had to use some improvised methods to get it back ;)

George,
Thanks a lot :)

Betsy,
I’ll upload them soon. Thanks for your comments :)

That tree is so bosai-like.

Kirigalpoththa said...

Ratty,
Thanks! Yes, buffaloes were faraway, so not that clear in the picture.

Knatolee,
Since you have come to Yala, you must have surely gone over the dam of this tank and seen these trees :)

1doncalling,
Yes, it surely does :)

Thanks all for your comments!
